Can I Get a Score with that Scoop?

Week 2 kicked off with a bang and did not disappoint. We had 2 games go to overtime, 6 games decided by 3 points or less, and a lot of high scoring games this week. It was so much fun that at one point I’m standing over my phone yelling into it to cheer on the Titans in OT. What made it fun? Let’s get into it.

PHI v. MIN

Kirk Cousins throws for 364 yards and 4 touchdowns and . . . loses? That’s not how I thought that sentence would end but you read it right. In 2 weeks Cousins has thrown for more than 700 yards, 6 TDs, and 1 INT. And the Vikings have yet to win a game. They currently have no running game (although that should be less of an issue with the Cam Akers trade) and need to figure out how to keep the ball in their hands. 4 fumbles does not make a winning team. In my opinion, the Eagles didn’t win this, the Vikings lost it. I really hope they get their act together soon.

Final Score: PHI 34 MIN 28

GB v. ATL

Bijan Robinson is making a splash in the NFL and I am here for it. I didn’t expect much out of the Falcons this year, but I’m always happy to be proven wrong in a situation like this. Desmond Ridder is serviceable and surprisingly the Falcons are 2-0. Green Bay is still figuring out what life after Aaron Rodgers is like but I think they’ll have a better result once Aaron Jones comes back.

Final Score: GB 24 ATL 25

BUF v. LV

This was more like the Buffalo Bills team from last year. Josh Allen seems to have suffered no ill effects from last week’s poor showing. But the real start of the show might’ve been the Bills defense. They shut down the Raiders offense so badly I’m not even sure they let Josh Jacobs onto the field. Negative yards? Yikes.

Final Score: BUF 38 LV 10

BAL v. CIN

There’s a theme this week...this Cincinnati team played much more like the Cincinnati team from last year. But it was too little too late and they weren’t able to mount a comeback against the Ravens. And Burrow re-aggravated the injury he probably should’ve been resting the last 2 weeks but what do I know. I’m a lawyer not a doctor. The Ravens seem none the worse for wear without Dobbins and they’re definitely my early favorite to win the AFC North.

Final Score: BAL 27 CIN 24

SEA v. DET

OT GAME NUMBER 1! Side note: I’m so glad this game didn’t end in a tie. I hate ties. Anyway, Tyler Lockett is not on the downswing. He is strong as ever and here to play. I said it last year, but I love that Geno is having success in Seattle now. He’s worked so hard to get there. And I love the Lions team. I loved seeing them fight hard. It’s hard to see them lose after the thrilling win last week in KC, but no team is perfect. We’ll see them back in fighting form next week.

Final Score: SEA 37 DET 31

LAC v. TEN

OT GAME NUMBER 2! I can’t believe we got 2 OT games already. The Chargers right now are allllmost there, but not quite. As evidenced by their 0-2 start. It’s hard when a team has the talent to be strong and they lose close to the end. That said, the Titans played a hell of a game in the rain. Nick Folk is not done. Treylon Burks is a hell of WR and as it turns out when you give Derrick Henry the ball, he makes magic happen. Sparks fly when he touches the ball.

Final Score: LAC 24 TEN 27

CHI v. TB

This game was not exciting to me. The Bears aren’t playing very well. And I’m just not excited about Tampa. The Bucs played well enough (the defense even padded the score with a pick 6). But I just wasn’t excited. We’ll see if that changes.

Final Score: CHI 17 TB 27

KC v. JAX

Patty got Kelce back and the Chiefs were still not electric. The defense shut down the Jags, but at 17 points, the Chiefs scored lower than many other teams this week. By far they aren’t the same team they were last year, but never count out Andy Reid. He’s like the hydra. You cut off one head and three more grow in its place. He’s got plans to ensure the Chiefs remain near the top of the AFC.

Final Score: KC 17 JAX 9

IND v. HOU

Oof. Concussion central. Richardson and Kelly both get concussed and immediately, I expect the Colts are going to fall to the Texans. SURPRISE! The stache is here to save the day. Minshew comes in and the Colts put up a score on Houston that I haven’t expected since Andrew Luck’s first injury. CJ Stroud started to find his stride and if Houston can draft some weapons they could make the AFC South competitive again.

Final Score: IND 31 HOU 20

SF v. LAR

Did you know that quad muscles can hand the ball off to running backs? I sure didn’t. But if anyone’s quad can do it, George Kittle’s can. A mistimed snap while Kittle was in motion led to the ball bouncing off his quad straight into McCaffrey’s hands. You literally cannot make this stuff up. The Niners have it all. Offense, defense, and special teams. I’m all in on the Niners until further notice.

Final Score: SF 30 LAR 23

NYG v. ARI

This game started out and I just thought “Here we go again”. Another week, another disappointing Giants game where they score little to no points. Um clearly I was wrong. The Giants come out of nowhere and score 31 points to come back and win the game. Don’t count them out yet (but maybe do because now they’re without Barkley for a few weeks).

Final Score: NYG 31 ARI 28

NYJ v. DAL

MICAH.PARSONS. Do I even need to talk about anything else? The man cannot be human. That said, Zach Wilson is a hot mess of interceptions. If the Jets have any hope of success this year, they need to hire a new quarterback. Literally, anyone. Hell, call up Fitzmagic and ask him to work some of his magic. He’ll still throw fewer INTs than Wilson.

Final Score: NYJ 10 DAL 30

WAS v. DEN

What I expected out of this game: decent football and Brian Robinson to score. What I got? A SUCCESSFUL hail mary. I never get to see those. It was absolutely wild to see that especially coming out of Russell Wilson. I love crazy football, especially when it goes well. Am I disappointed the two-point conversion didn’t work out? Yes, but that was a great ending to a game. I also love games that end with uncommon scores. So this one made me very happy.

Final Score: WAS 35 DEN 33

MIA v. NE

Bill Belichick out here doing some Bill Belichick shit. Miami sets up for a 49-yard field goal that was completely doable (and would’ve given me some fantasy football help) and Brenden Schooler comes out and literally runs up the line of scrimmage to get a running start to block the kick. I’ve never seen anything like it in my life and let me tell you I was SCREAMING at the tv. Love seeing a veteran coach (obviously with the help of his special teams coach) come up with new ways to surprise us with his plays.

Final Score: MIA 24 NE 17

NO v. CAR

New Orleans could be a team to watch this season. Derek Carr has some real offensive weapons in Michael Thomas and Chris Olave. But the Saint’s running game took a hit with Jamaal Williams’ injury. Their offense becomes a bit one dimensional for the next few weeks and that could make winning more games difficult. I’m not giving Carolina the time of day. I still think it was stupid to sell the farm for Bryce Young.

Final Score: NO 20 CAR 17

PIT v. CLE

I had zero literally zero expectations of Pittsburgh after last week’s embarrassment. But they came, they saw, and TJ Watt conquered with his scoop and score. Deshaun Watson showed everyone exactly who he is when he shoved a ref. That man should not have been let back into the NFL. And, sadly, Nick Chubb suffered a gruesome injury that definitely ended his season, but hopefully not his career. I’m still not used to having 2 Monday night games, but we’ll see how it goes as the season progresses. Another fun score for the end of this one.

Final Score: PIT 26 CLE 22

This week was full of last second wins, OT, and some fun and unexpected scores. It truly is everything I could hope for in an NFL week, with the Colts winning as the cherry on top. If this week is any indication of how much chaos we could see this season, it might be my favorite one yet.

Tune in next week and help me root for both the Jags and Texans to lose.
